Get to Know the Role
You will manage the Android engineering surface for Grab's Interactive Communications products — real-time chat, VoIP calling, and number masking. You'll work across the full mobile lifecycle: architecture decisions, feature delivery, SDK integrations, and production stability. You will report to the Engineering Manager
This is a senior IC role where you'll be expected to lead system design for Android, mentor mid-level engineers, and partner closely with product, design, QA, and backend teams to ship high-quality features that connect millions of passengers, drivers, and merchants daily. This role will be onsite in HCMC
The Critical Tasks You Will Perform
• Design Android applications using Kotlin and Java, following best practices and architectural patterns
• Implement user interfaces following Material Design principles and ensure user experience across several devices and screen sizes
• Integrate RESTful APIs and backend services, ensuring efficient data communication and synchronization
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code with comprehensive unit and integration tests using frameworks such as JUnit, Espresso, and Mockito
• Optimize application performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to enhance speed and efficiency
• Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members, encouraging a culture of continuous improvement
• Troubleshoot and debug complex issues, using analytical skills to identify causes and implement solutions
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to translate requirements into technical specifications
• Stay current with Android ecosystem developments, new technologies, and industry best practices
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning, estimation, and retrospectives
• Mentor junior developers and support their professional growth through guidance and knowledge sharing
