EHS Integration Lead
Job Description
Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century’s most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril’s family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.
ABOUT THE JOB
The EHS Integration Lead drives the integration of EHS into engineering, product development, manufacturing development, and other technical business processes by building cross-functional relationships, establishing scalable integration mechanisms, and translating enterprise EHS strategy into engineering execution. Where technical safety engineers determine how a specific hazard is managed, this role determines how EHS becomes embedded in the way an engineering organization already works. That means understanding engineering workflows, development processes, decision points and constraints well enough to integrate with them rather than imposing a separate EHS process alongside them.
EHS Integration Leads own defined integration domains. Depending on organizational need and individual strengths, that ownership may center on the Prevention through Design program and the design standards that carry it, or on enterprise risk management and the engineering relationships that drive its adoption. This role also provides technical and program leadership to technical safety engineers working within its domain, exercised through the program and its standards rather than through reporting lines.
Position is on-site at Costa Mesa, CA, with regular travel to manufacturing and program sites.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
•
•
Engineering Relationships and Interface
• Serve as a primary EHS Integration interface to Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Product, Program Management, Quality, Facilities and Operations, building trusted working relationships across those organizations and with EHS Operations and the EHS technical disciplines.
• Partner with engineering teams to understand their workflows, development processes, decision points, constraints and technical needs, and integrate with them rather than introducing a separate EHS process.
• Proactively identify opportunities where earlier EHS engagement adds value in the development lifecycle, and make that case in engineering terms.
• Represent engineering realities, constraints and priorities back into the EHS organization so that EHS strategy remains executable.
• Coordinate EHS technical resources onto projects requiring specialized safety engineering support, ensuring the appropriate discipline expert is engaged.
•
Prevention through Design and Design Standards
• Drive implementation of Prevention through Design principles across product, manufacturing, equipment, facility and process development.
• Support implementation and continued development of the EHS Design Process, including its integration with engineering phase gates and development milestones.
• Support development, revision and consistent application of the enterprise EHS design standards, design checklists and supporting criteria.
• Translate EHS requirements, risk information, lessons learned and regulatory obligations into usable engineering requirements and design criteria.
• Influence manufacturing process, equipment selection and facility layout decisions to eliminate or reduce hazards before implementation, participating in design trades so that elimination options enter the decision rather than being reviewed afterward.
• Facilitate early hazard identification and structured risk-management activities with engineering teams and EHS technical subject-matter experts, participating in selected product-development and manufacturing-development reviews until scalable ownership models are established.
• Ensure operator task, maintenance access and human interaction are considered in design decisions, in partnership with the human factors and ergonomics function.
•
Enterprise Risk Register and Risk Assessment Process
• Support development of the base model for the enterprise risk register, including its structure, application of the enterprise hazard taxonomy, and the data ownership and entry conventions required for risk information to aggregate consistently and remain trustworthy across programs, sites and regions.
• Establish and document the process by which risk assessments are requested, scoped, performed, reviewed, recorded and closed, consistent with the enterprise risk assessment procedure.
• Support risk assessment delivery across programs, manufacturing lines and facilities in partnership with EHS technical subject-matter experts and EHS Operations, contributing facilitation and consistency while technical determinations remain with the relevant discipline.
• Drive adoption of the register across engineering, program and operations teams so that it becomes the reference source for design-phase and operational risk information.
• Use register data to identify recurring hazard patterns and translate them into design standards, requirements and lessons learned.
•
Integration Mechanisms, Tooling and Adoption
• Work with engineering stakeholders to define when EHS engagement is required, what information is required, who participates, and what constitutes closure.
• Identify gaps in existing engineering workflows and develop integration strategies to close them, rather than relying on informal engagement.
• Develop scalable processes and mechanisms that reduce dependence on individual relationships and manual EHS intervention.
• Own the technical tooling dedicated to this domain, including analysis, modeling and design-review tooling specific to the discipline, and define its roadmap.
• Partner with enterprise software, digital and data resources, who own enterprise platforms and software development, to integrate EHS tooling into engineering and manufacturing workflows and to specify requirements for automation, data exchange and AI-enabled capability.
• Establish feedback loops connecting Engineering, EHS Operations, incident data, risk assessments and audit findings into future designs, and track adoption and effectiveness of Prevention through Design and EHS engineering-integration initiatives.
• Assume ownership of a defined integration domain such as the Prevention through Design program, enterprise risk management, the Product Development Process, the Manufacturing Development Process, or engineering change, and provide technical and program leadership to technical safety engineers working within that domain.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, human factors, industrial engineering, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, environmental science, systems engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Progressive experience in a design-facing technical discipline such as EHS or safety engineering, human factors and ergonomics, system safety, process safety, reliability, industrial engineering or design quality, gained in engineering, manufacturing, defense, aerospace, semiconductor, energy or another complex technical or industrial environment.
• Experience integrating hazard analysis or risk assessment with engineering and program decision-making, rather than after-the-fact compliance work.
• Demonstrated experience embedding a staff function into an engineering or product development organization, building the engagement model rather than only participating in one.
• Demonstrated experience authoring or owning technical standards, design criteria, or equivalent governing documents used by engineers outside your own team.
• Strong facilitation, technical writing and relationship-building skills, with the ability to translate technical risk into engineering and business recommendations.
• Evidence of having built something durable: a program, standard, workflow or mechanism that outlasted your personal involvement.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Direct working experience with Prevention through Design methodology, ANSI/ASSP Z590.3, or an equivalent design-phase safety framework, applied to real design decisions.
• Background in human factors and ergonomics, system safety, reliability, systems engineering, industrial engineering, or another design-facing technical discipline that embeds requirements into design.
• Experience facilitating structured hazard analysis such as HAZID, HAZOP or FMEA with engineering teams.
• Experience with enterprise risk assessment methodology, including hazard taxonomy design, risk matrix application and scoring consistency across assessors.
• Experience selecting, configuring or owning technical tooling for a discipline, including analysis or modeling tools, or acting as requirements owner for a configurable data platform.
• Advanced degree in safety engineering, systems engineering, human factors, occupational or environmental health, or a related field, or professional certification such as CSP, PE or CIH.
• Natural tendency towards challenging the status quo; leans into hard problems instead of walking away.
