Lead Motion Designer
Job Description
HoneyBook is the leading AI-powered business management platform for service-based business owners. Designed to enhance - not replace - independent professionals. HoneyBook’s AI-powered tools help businesses attract leads, connect with clients, book projects, and manage payments more efficiently. With AI seamlessly integrated into every workflow, entrepreneurs can focus on their craft while scaling their businesses with confidence. Since its founding in 2013, HoneyBook has powered over 25 million client relationships and processed more than $12 billion in transactions, helping independent businesses grow faster and smarter.
Our culture is built on five core values that inform everything we do. We encourage collaboration, feedback, ownership, and maintain a growth mindset. We know experience comes in many forms - some visible on your resume, others not. No one candidate will be a 100% perfect match to our description, so if you thrive in a fast-paced, intellectually curious environment and have relevant experience, we encourage you to apply.
Our Design org is a multi-disciplinary team of Product Design, Brand and Marketing Design, Motion Design, and User Research - all working cross-functionally toward one goal: give independents the tools they need to run and grow their business.
The role
We’re looking for a hands-on Lead Motion Designer to own motion end-to-end at HoneyBook - from concept and script to design, animation, and launch. This isn't a traditional motion job; it’s a high-impact IC role for someone with a real curiosity for new tech, who stays ahead of emerging tools and wants to help shape a modern, AI-driven workflow. You'll spend most of your time making, while directing freelancers when projects need extra scale.
What you'll do
• Directly Create & Animate: Own end-to-end execution - ads, tutorials, product videos, and brand moments - from initial brief to final shipped asset.
• Build AI-Native Workflows: Use tools like Weave, Krea, and Midjourney to automate production, speed up R&D;, and establish a distinct HoneyBook motion style.
• Direct External Talent: Serve as the creative lead for freelance motion artists - briefing, reviewing, and holding them to HoneyBook's bar when project scale requires extra hands.
• Connect Motion to Metrics: Partner with marketing, product, and engineering to create work that moves business goals, not just looks good in a reel.
• Set Up Studio Systems: Define the processes, tooling, and workflows to build an efficient, scalable motion practice.
What we're looking for
7+ years of hands-on motion graphics and creative direction, with a portfolio showing range across script-to-screen, live-action, and 3D. Beyond technical skill, we look for:
• Uncompromising Craft & Taste: You love being in the tool and take pride in exceptional art direction. In an AI world, your value lies in judgment, taste, and execution.
• Full-Stack Maker: Comfortable doing the work at every stage - script, storyboard, frame, and animation, and knowing when to pivot to live-action or 3D.
• AI-Fluent Mindset: You leverage AI to automate routine tasks, freeing up more time to focus on complex, high-craft frames.
• Strategic Storytelling: Ability to connect audience insights to compelling creative, knowing that a great story always beats a shiny visual.
The good stuff:
Mission-driven: You'll be joining more than just another startup. Our members’ success is at the heart of everything we do.
Impact: We move quickly and encourage every employee to push the envelope. Our best ideas come from out-of-the-box thinking and innovation; be ready to fail fast and often!
Compensation: We offer a competitive salary and meaningful equity grants.
Benefits & perks: From wellness programs to exceptional family leave policies, the health and happiness of our employees are foremost.
Our core values:
People come first: We prioritize people as we explore opportunities and work through challenges.
Raise the bar: We push for greatness—for ourselves, each other, and our members.
Own it: Trust and ownership let us make decisions with confidence.
We love what we do: We bring passion to our work and love what we create for our members.
Keep it real: Authenticity, respect, and transparency are at our core.
