Overview
We are seeking an experienced Technical Project Manager to support the People Team by leading complex, cross-functional initiatives that span multiple People functions and enterprise systems. In this role, you will partner closely with teams across People (including HRBPs, Total Rewards, Talent Acquisition, People Operations, and People Technology), as well as Finance, Legal, IT, and other stakeholders, to plan and execute initiatives that are critical to Instacart’s growth and operational effectiveness.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of people, process, and technology—bringing structure to ambiguous work, aligning diverse stakeholders, and ensuring initiatives are delivered thoughtfully and sustainably.
The People Team at Instacart builds the talent, culture, and capabilities that enable the business to scale. Our work impacts every employee, from hire to exit, and requires close collaboration across functions to ensure clarity, consistency, and a strong employee experience. As our organization grows, cross-functional People initiatives increasingly require dedicated project leadership to ensure alignment, accountability, and successful execution.
As a Technical Project Manager on the People Team, you will lead end-to-end planning and execution for cross-functional People initiatives that involve multiple teams, systems, and stakeholders. These initiatives may vary in scope and focus over time and can include changes to People programs, operating models, processes, or supporting technologies.
A simple principle guides this role’s engagement: if an initiative affects multiple People teams and requires coordinated planning, execution, and change management, it qualifies for TPM support. The TPM does not replace functional ownership, but instead partners with subject-matter experts to bring structure, sequencing, and delivery discipline to complex work.
About the Job
• Partner with People teams and cross-functional stakeholders to lead end-to-end project management for complex initiatives that span functions, systems, and processes.
• Drive discovery and planning to clarify scope, goals, success metrics, dependencies, risks, and timelines.
• Develop and manage project plans, roadmaps, and deliverables to ensure high-quality outcomes.
• Facilitate collaboration and alignment across stakeholders with differing priorities and perspectives.
• Support change management efforts, including stakeholder communication, enablement, and adoption planning.
• Identify and proactively address risks, tradeoffs, and roadblocks to keep initiatives moving forward.
• Ensure clear documentation of project decisions, plans, and learnings to support transparency and reuse.
• Encourage collaboration, shared ownership, and continuous improvement across the People organization.
