Join Vultr

Vultr is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Dev Engineer to serve as the technical owner connecting our engineering alerting to Vultr's new Global Integrated Operations Command Center (GIOC) in Chennai, India, and to build the consolidated single-pane dashboard GIOC will operate from. The ideal candidate looks at five disconnected monitoring consoles and a dozen siloed alert feeds, winces, and then methodically builds the one dashboard that replaces all of them. This is a highly visible, focused role, requiring deep familiarity with Vultr's current architecture, monitoring stack, and operational workflows. This is your opportunity to build the operational backbone GIOC runs on from day one.

Role Overview

The Senior Software Engineer — Tooling & Automation will own the development of automation, integrations, and unified monitoring capabilities for Vultr’s GIOC in Chennai. The role will connect multiple monitoring, SIEM, infrastructure, and provider platforms into a single operational view, while automating alert routing, ticketing, paging, escalation, and SLA tracking. The engineer will work closely with Systems, Network, Security, and GIOC teams to improve observability, reduce manual intervention, and enable reliable 24×7 global infrastructure operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze every engineering alert stream across Systems, Network, and Security—including Icinga, Grafana, and SIEM platforms—to determine the optimal integration strategy via webhooks, APIs, or native connectors.

• Develop a robust notification layer that funnels high-priority events into GIOC’s operational toolkit, ensuring critical context remains intact for rapid L1 response.

• Collaborate with cross-functional subject matter experts to align automated routing logic with established escalation and resolution protocols.

• Engineer seamless on-call notification workflows that drive strict adherence to acknowledgment SLAs without requiring manual intervention.

• Architect a comprehensive single-pane dashboard that aggregates monitoring across global providers like Equinix and Airtel, eliminating inefficient tool-switching.

• Define the initial scope for visualization projects alongside leadership to meet aggressive technical and operational milestones.

• Maintain continuous infrastructure visibility by managing side-by-side operations of legacy and modern tools during the GIOC transition phase.

• Integrate health and performance metrics—such as escalation precision and aging—into reporting modules for executive-level status updates.

• Produce detailed documentation for all routing systems and dashboards to ensure long-term maintainability by global operations teams.

Qualifications

• 5–8 years of experience in Platform Engineering or similar domains, with significant expertise in NMS platforms, Grafana, and major SIEM environments.

• Profound understanding of Vultr’s existing monitoring ecosystem, infrastructure stack, and standard operational procedures across multiple technical pillars.

• Proven track record of building complex integrations using Python and RESTful APIs over the last three years.

• Extensive experience crafting or customizing sophisticated dashboards via Kibana, Power BI, or similar visualization toolsets.

• Deep knowledge of ITSM workflows—specifically Jira and Mattermost—and the technical mapping of event severity to incident metadata.

• Preference for candidates with experience in 24x7 global NOC/SOC environments and multi-provider datacenter logistics.
